Subject: I Love the smell of napalm in the white house!
First Truman examines the flood damage done to the Midwest. We see flooded towns. Man, The things that happened before dams came to be...
Then we see a demonstration of a sub submerging in a 45 degree angle. No explanation why, it's sort of strange.
Next is a VERY strange and unheard of phenomenon, the Masquere of france, a yearly tidal wave that comes, although not huge, it's sure fascinating to watch, I have no idea if it happens now..
Some footage of the the Indo Chinese war is shown. The whole this has a very Apocalypse Now feel to it. Especially the Napalm bombs..
A Japanese island is then shown, which is being guarded by those communists across the river. Great footage of the army at work in winter, seemingly unsure of how to walk in snowshoes, and skiing.
We then see US warships blowing up the Korean coastline.
After that, we visit a bread museum in Italy. Many different shapes and sizes of Bread are shown. Isn't that exciting?
We then get a little more interesting as we catch up with the airman family that won the first plot of land when the government held a lottery 6 years ago for public land. He is now a successful farmer, kids and now breeding cows. Quite an uplifting segment.
We then go to the first all glass and steel skyscraper and it's then new method of cleaning it.. scaffolding1 Absolutely nothing looks like it has changed. (which is pretty remarkable)
After that, we see the U.S.S. Courier, which was a gun-less radio station on a ship basically. Sometimes transmitting live broadcasts from the ship, but mostly transmitting other broadcasts to "Communism-slaved" countries.
Operation Longhorn is then profiled, which was then the largest US war games ever attempted. Tank footage and airmen come out from the sky. Some of the equipment arent so lucky lol
After this, we see a heartbreaking story of a town's population forced to evacuate for good their town after the French government build a dam and flood their town because of this. This is a sad sad segment. I saw a movie similar to this.. I can't remember what it was called though..
3 different types of theater are shown next. In Holland a natural stage made out of stone is showcased, following that, a Japanese stage is shown, with it's revolving stage (made apparently before Disneylad had the idea) and a kid's puppet show in Spain (love the natural soundtrack), a firecracker goes off at the end of the puppet show, check out the kid at the bottom right. Interesting stuff.
We finsih this one off starting off with a history of the White House, how it has changed through the year, and finally a tour of some of the rooms in the newly renovated mansion. Quite interesting.
All in all, again, a mixed bag.
